Sugar has many negatives effects on your bodies when over consumed some examples are headaches, mood swings, lathargy, unable to concentrate, anxiety, unfocused, hyperactivity, acne, aging, depression, tooth decay, increases hunger, addiction, agression, irrational, also increasing the risk of more severelife threatening conditions such as obesity, type two diabeties, heart disease and cancer.
There are some classic recipes that never seem to get old. They continue to be as popular today as the day they were created. The smell that permeates through the house when baking these classics trigger those child-hood memories of visiting Nanna after school or weekends. Welcomed with a warm yet deliciate hug, a feeling of uncondtional love and a sense of home. Always a freshly baked cake, biscuits or slice on the kitchen bench just incase visitors pop around for a visit. Its amazing how smells connect us with deep emotions and memories something we take a little for granted now a days. As that saying goes we need to stop and smell the roses. Appreciate the little things in life.
These Winter days have had me feeling more like baking. Maybe it’s because we don’t feel like braving the cold outside, the home comfort of staying warm indoors. Having time at home gives us some spare hours over the weekend to do the things we love in my case baking or maybe just because we feel like turning the kettle on more often to warm our frosty fingers. Whatever the reasons I’m not complaining I love getting my hands dirty in the kitchen. There is just something so satisfying and homely about baking something from scratch wouldn’t you agree?
It only feels like the kids just went back to school for term 3 and now we are starting the school holidays again. I don’t know about you but it gets more difficult to keep the kids entertained as the year goes on. On a positive note the weather is warming up so beach and park days are definitely on the agenda and are free bonus. Here is a old school favourite that I’ve adapted to a refined sugar free recipe and has a gluten free option. Another yummy kids treat to feed the kids and their friends these holidays.
Fresh figs are at their best at the moment, they are in season right now here in Australia so I jumped at the opportunity to indulge in these bite size deliciousness. Oh how I have missed them, admittedly store-bought are no comparison to my Nonno’s homegrown variety but seriously nothing ever is.
